About Värma Sauna Co.

The First Chapter

Värma Sauna Co. was established in 2026 and is rooted in the mountains of Truckee, California — a place where the rhythm of the outdoors shapes how people live, recover, and connect. We design and build custom outdoor saunas crafted for mountain living, blending advanced design, superior craftsmanship, and a luxury mountain-modern aesthetic with the rugged demands of alpine environments.

Our saunas are manufactured in our Reno, Nevada workshop, where every build is handled with hands-on care from first concept through final installation. We work with residential and commercial clients, and partner with architects, builders, and property managers to make the process seamless from the ground up.

We are currently in our first season of production, hand-building our initial five saunas in the shop — each one a slight variation in form, as we explore the range of what a Värma sauna can be.

Why Truckee?

Located on the River in Truckee and Reno

All three of Värma's founders call Truckee home — a town built around the rhythms of mountain life, where the outdoors isn't a backdrop but a daily practice. Running through the heart of that landscape is the Truckee River, one of the Sierra Nevada's most iconic waterways, fed by the snowmelt of the Tahoe Basin and winding its way down through the mountains before reaching Reno, the same city where every Värma sauna is built.

That river is more than geography to us — it's a through line. The tradition of sauna has always lived close to water. In Scandinavia, saunas were built at the edge of lakes and rivers, the plunge into cold water as essential to the ritual as the heat itself. Here in the Sierra, we have that same invitation at our doorstep — step out of the heat, and the river is waiting. The contrast of fire and cold water, of sweat and snowmelt, is something our team knows firsthand. It's the same feeling we build into every sauna we make.

"The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies."

— John Muir
